The Greatest of All Time
Date: 10-03-2006 13:35
Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms proclaims that he is the greatest cruiserweight of all time. This past week, Helms received some validation for that claim when he signed a new long-term contract with WWE. WWE.com caught up with Helms this week to talk about his new contract, a potential Velocity Match of the Year candidate and more.

WWE.com: Congratulations on the new contract. How does it feel to re-sign? Helms: It feels great. They know I’m the best and rewarded me for it.

WWE.com: You say you’re the greatest cruiserweight in the world; do you think you can hang onto the Cruiserweight Championship as long as you're in WWE?
Helms: Well, that would be a record-breaking performance for sure. The whole time might be a lot to ask, but I don’t see anyone beating me anytime soon. I see myself being the longest reigning Cruiserweight Champion of all time.

WWE.com: Many are touting the consider Super Crazy vs. Nunzio to be an early Match of the Year Candidate. How do you feel about that?
Helms: I’ll agree that it was a great match. As far as I’m concerned, those two can have a Match of the Year every single day, but I’m still the Cruiserweight Champion. It has no effect on me whatsoever.

WWE.com: If you’re the greatest cruiserweight of all time like you say you are, how can a Match of the Year contain two cruiserweights other than yourself?
Helms: Well, it’s because those two are evenly matched. But you know what? They’re nowhere near my level. I’m so far above and beyond everyone else that my matches are dominating and one-sided. I’m going to have to be actually challenged before I have a potential Match of the Year.

WWE.com: Are you going to try to top what they did next time you’re in the ring?
Helms: I guarantee that my performance alone in any match could top that. Like I said, until I’m in there with someone who actually has a chance to defeat me, my matches will be too one-sided. So will my next match be a Match of the Year Candidate? Probably not.

WWE.com: Are there any cruiserweights in WWE that you feel are a challenge to you?
Helms: Nope, there’s no one that can even make me break a sweat.
